The UK has updated its Skilled Worker visa rules to address labor shortages by identifying 70 occupations eligible for the visa. These roles, which include positions with salaries starting at £33,400, now require applicants to meet four specific qualification steps. The changes are part of a broader effort to attract skilled foreign workers while maintaining immigration control.
The new guidelines outline four stages for foreign workers to qualify for the Skilled Worker visa. These include securing a job offer in one of the listed shortage occupations, meeting salary thresholds, achieving a certain level of English proficiency, and passing a points-based assessment. The policy aims to ensure that only the most qualified candidates are granted long-term residency.
The UK government has also announced the closure of two existing immigration routes for extending stays, citing the need to streamline the system. However, the Skilled Worker visa remains open as an alternative for eligible foreign nationals. This shift reflects the government’s focus on targeted immigration that aligns with economic needs.
