NPP delegates have approved Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as the new leader of the New Patriotic Party during a conference in Kumasi. The decision was made alongside the approval of 14 constitutional amendments. The party is reorganizing in preparation for the 2028 election.
Frank Davies, chairman of the Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee, stated that former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta will return to Ghana “in his own good time.” The comment was made during the same conference in Kumasi. Davies addressed the audience at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
The NPP has been restructuring its leadership ahead of the upcoming election. Dr Bawumia’s appointment marks a significant shift in party dynamics. The 14 amendments aim to modernize the party’s internal structure. The conference in Kumasi was a key event in the party’s reorganization process. The 2028 election is expected to be a major political contest in Ghana.
