A former Nigerian senator has raised concerns over helicopter safety after two fatal crashes in Ghana and Zimbabwe. Shehu Sani called on aviation experts to investigate what he described as a troubling pattern of fatal helicopter accidents involving notable individuals. The incidents have sparked renewed interest in aviation safety protocols.
The first crash occurred in Ghana, where a helicopter involved in a tour group crashed, resulting in multiple casualties. The second incident took place in Zimbabwe, where a helicopter carrying a high-profile individual crashed, killing several people. Both accidents have raised questions about the safety standards and regulatory oversight in the region.
Helicopter travel remains a popular mode of transport in West Africa, particularly for tourism and VIP travel. However, the frequency of such incidents has led to growing public concern. Aviation authorities in both countries have been urged to conduct thorough investigations and implement stricter safety measures. The incidents highlight the need for improved training, maintenance checks, and regulatory enforcement in the aviation sector.
