Australia has announced that permanent residents from New Zealand, the United Kingdom, the United States and Canada can apply to join the Australian Defence Force. The policy applies to individuals who have lived in Australia for at least two years and meet entry and security clearance requirements.
The Australian government stated that the change aims to strengthen military capabilities by tapping into a broader pool of skilled individuals. Applicants must hold permanent residency status and have resided in Australia for a minimum of two years. Security checks will still be required before final approval.
This policy marks a shift in Australia’s military recruitment strategy, expanding eligibility beyond current citizens. It follows recent efforts to enhance national security and defense readiness. The move is part of broader reforms to modernize the Defence Force and address staffing challenges.
