Japan has revised its passport validity rules, specifying that individuals under the age of 18 must renew their passports every five years instead of the standard ten-year period. The change applies to those applying for a passport in Nigeria, as outlined in the Embassy of Japan’s official documentation.
The updated guidelines clarify that applicants aged 16 to 17 will have their passports valid for five years, while those under 16 must also apply for a new passport every five years. This differs from the usual ten-year validity period for adult passports. The policy aims to ensure up-to-date travel documents for minors, particularly in light of frequent travel and identity verification requirements.
This adjustment follows recent updates to Japan’s immigration policies, which emphasize the need for accurate and current travel documentation. The Embassy of Japan in Nigeria has provided detailed forms and instructions for applicants, ensuring clarity on the new requirements. The change is expected to affect a significant number of Nigerian citizens planning to travel to Japan, particularly those under the age of 18.
