The Ghanaian Electricity Company (ECG) has launched a three-week nationwide campaign to collect unpaid electricity bills and address illegal connections. The initiative, running from November 9 to 27, aims to recover outstanding payments and identify unauthorized reconnections.
The campaign targets households and businesses with outstanding electricity debts. ECG officials stated that the effort will also focus on detecting and rectifying illegal connections, which they claim contribute to revenue loss. The company has deployed field teams to visit customers and enforce payment collection.
This is the third such campaign ECG has conducted in 2023. Previous drives saw a 15% increase in revenue collection compared to the same period in 2022. The current initiative follows a government directive to improve financial sustainability in the energy sector. ECG has also introduced a mobile application to facilitate online payments and reduce administrative delays.
The move comes amid rising operational costs and pressure to meet national energy targets. ECG has emphasized that the campaign is part of broader efforts to ensure compliance with energy regulations and maintain service quality.
