President John Dramani Mahama of Ghana visited Ethiopia’s Gondar city on Friday, where he joined Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali to inaugurate the Megech Irrigation Project. The visit took place ahead of the 12th Tana High-Level Forum on Security in Africa, scheduled to be held in Bahir Dar. During the visit, Mahama wore Ethiopian imperial attire and toured the UNESCO-listed Fasil Ghebbi royal complex.

The Tana Forum, a key platform for African leaders, is expected to address regional security challenges, economic sovereignty, and the influence of global powers. Discussions are taking place amid growing concerns over Red Sea security. The Megech Irrigation Project, which aims to improve agricultural productivity, is part of broader efforts to enhance food security and economic development in the region.

This visit marks a significant diplomatic engagement between Ghana and Ethiopia, highlighting the increasing importance of regional cooperation in addressing shared challenges. The Tana Forum has historically played a role in shaping Africa’s strategic priorities, with this year’s event likely focusing on stability, resource management, and international relations. The Ghanaian president’s participation underscores the continent’s ongoing efforts to strengthen political and economic ties through collaborative initiatives.
